What People Ask About Bespoke Joinery
What is bespoke joinery?
Bespoke joinery means furniture and fittings designed and built specifically for your home, to your exact measurements and specifications. Unlike off-the-shelf products, bespoke joinery is made from scratch in a workshop using solid hardwood and traditional techniques — so it fits the room perfectly and lasts for generations.
I have never had bespoke joinery made before — what does the process involve?
It starts with a conversation. We visit your home, listen to what you want to achieve, look at the space, and discuss materials and budget. We then produce scaled drawings for your approval. Once the design is signed off we build it in our Lancashire workshop and install it. Most projects involve two or three short visits from us. You do not need to know anything about joinery — our job is to translate your vision into something real.
Is bespoke joinery worth the cost compared to buying from a shop?
For most clients, yes. Bespoke joinery fills your space exactly, uses better materials, and lasts significantly longer than shop furniture. It is also the only way to get something that fits an awkward alcove, a sloping ceiling, or an unusual room shape. Well-made bespoke joinery typically adds more to a property's value than it costs.
Who actually makes the joinery — is it handmade or factory-produced?
All our joinery is made by hand in our Preston, Lancashire workshop by Jason and Shaun Iddon and their small team of craftsmen. We do not outsource production or use a factory. Every piece is built by the people who designed it, which is why the quality is consistent and why we stand behind everything we make.
How long does a bespoke joinery project take from start to finish?
Timescales vary by project. A fitted bedroom or single room of cabinetry typically takes 10 to 14 weeks from consultation to installation. A bespoke staircase runs 14 to 20 weeks. Orangeries and structural timber frames take longer. We are typically booked several months ahead, so early contact is recommended.
What areas do you cover?
Our workshop is in Longton, Preston. We regularly work across Lancashire — including Penwortham, Hutton, Leyland, Chorley, Lostock Hall, and Walton-le-Dale — and throughout the wider UK. For larger commissions we travel internationally and have completed projects in Monaco, France, and the Netherlands.
